Flossie's Shepherd's Pie


1-1/2 Ground beef

1 Med. onion, chopped

4 c. water

2 Tsp. Kitchen Bouquet

1 Tsp. Salt

Dash of Worchester sauce

2 Tbsp. Cornstarch in 1/4 c. water

8 potatoes, peeled and cut

Milk to mash potatoes

Vegetables optional (corn, peas, carrots)

In large saucepan put all the ingredients except the cornstarch mixture and potatoes. Bring to boil and cook over a medium heat for about 1 hour during this time boil potatoes in water. Add cornstarch mixture and cook mixture to slightly thickened. Spread mixture into  9x13 baking dish. Drain and mash potatoes with milk. Season to taste. Start spreading the potatoes around the outside of dish working your way to center. Spread potatoes with fork to make sure all the meat mixture is covered.

Broil for pie for about 15 minutes or until potatoes are golden brown.

Yorkshire Pudding


1-1/4 c. milk

1/4 c. water

1 c. flour

1 tsp. salt

4 eggs

2 Tbsp. melted beef fat from roast or substitute with Crisco


Beat the milk, water, flour, salt and eggs with a mixer until very smooth and bubbly. Grease the bottom and sides of muffin pan or 9 x 13 pan. Pour batter into pan. Bake at 400 for 30 minutes.


Queen Elizabeth  II Cake

(Her majesty's own personal recipe)

1lb dates, pitted and chopped

1. C boiling water

1 tsp. Baking soda

1 tsp Baking powder

1 c. sugar

1 c. butter

2 eggs

1-1/2 c. flour

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 c. chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.Lightly grease a 9x13 inch pan. In a saucepan, combine dates, boiling water and baking soda. Let stand while mixing the batter. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Beat in the flour, baking powder and chopped walnuts. Stir in the date mixture. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool.
